Martin Stepek has various roles: he is a company director, family business authority and thought leader, teacher of mindfulness, author and poet, and a speaker on Polish-Scottish heritage.
As well as working for his own family firm from 1987 to 2002, Martin has studied family businesses for twenty years, attending workshops by Harvard and other world-leading universities to keep abreast of the latest thinking and advice. As co-founder and Chief Executive of the Scottish Family Business Association, Martin is frequently invited to speak at Conferences and events throughout the UK and beyond. In addition he is Director of Culture and Communications at the Scottish law firm Wright Johnston & Mackenzie.
Outside his business career, Martin has developed an international reputation as an author and poet, a speaker and writer on Polish history and heritage, and is one of Scotland’s foremost teachers of the science-based techniques of Mindfulness.
In 2014, Martin published Mindful Living, a series of reflections on how to live mindfully in everyday life. Mark Williams, Emeritus Professor of Clinical Psychology, University of Oxford describes this as ”a book of great beauty, clarity and generosity. As a manual for daily living, each page has something for us all’.
Martin is a non-executive director and founding member of Ethical Scotland and a tutor on ethical leadership at the Social Enterprise Academy. He led the Scottish Green Party from 2003 until 2004 and in 2007 took part in government coalition talks with the SNP and the Greens although he is no longer actively involved in party politics. He sits on the steering committee for the NHS-led Choose Life: Suicide Prevention Group, in Lanarkshire. He lives in Hamilton where he grew up and is married with two grown up children.
